X1 Trims for the Bay Area

2027 BMW X1 Trims Compared in Northern California

Two models, $9,200 apart, sharing an engine block and 295 lb-ft. What the step up actually buys.

The 2027 BMW X1 trim decision is a two-way choice, which makes it one of the shortest in the BMW range and one of the easiest to get wrong. Both models carry the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, the same 7-speed dual clutch transmission, the same xDrive all-wheel drive and the same 295 lb-ft of torque. The $9,200 between them buys 71 horsepower, a second to 60 mph and a different chassis underneath, not a longer equipment list.

We stock both at BMW of Napa Valley, and each one is the right answer for a different driver. Start with the 2027 X1 overview if you want the whole car in one read first.

Trim-by-Trim Breakdown

BMW X1 xDrive28i — $43,200 MSRP

241 horsepower and 295 lb-ft from a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four, through a 7-speed dual clutch to xDrive all-wheel drive, for a BMW-estimated 6.2 seconds to 60 mph and a 130 mph limiter. It rides on 18-inch V-Spoke Bicolor wheels with all-season tires and 225/55 sidewalls, on a strut front and multi-link rear suspension.

Standard equipment is the part people underestimate. The BMW Curved Display is standard, not optional: a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch control display behind one curve, running BMW iDrive on Operating System 9. Navigation, dual power front seats, a power liftgate, roof rails, Hill Descent Control, soft-touch Veganza upholstery and the full five-system safety suite all come with the car. Available: the Convenience package, the Driving Assistance packages and M Sport Professional trim. Who it is for: anyone whose X1 spends most of its life commuting.

BMW X1 M35i — $52,400 MSRP

312 horsepower from the M TwinPower Turbo version of the same 2.0-liter, still 295 lb-ft, still xDrive and the 7-speed dual clutch, for a BMW-estimated 5.2 seconds to 60 mph. Adaptive M Suspension is standard, so are M Sport brakes, the M Sport exhaust with quad tips, high-gloss black mirror caps, M alloy wheels in 19-inch on 245/45 tires, the M steering wheel with paddle shifters and M-specific graphics on the Curved Display. Proximity-sensing keyless entry is standard here and is not offered on the xDrive28i.

Available on the M35i alone: 19-inch M Compound brakes with perforated discs and grey calipers, 20-inch M Y-Spoke Bicolor 872M wheels, and M Sport seats with deep cushions, high side sections and illuminated M logos. It carries every standard feature the xDrive28i has. Who it is for: the driver who takes Highway 29 or the Silverado Trail because they want to, not because it is the way home.

Common 2027 BMW X1 Trim Comparisons

BMW X1 xDrive28i vs BMW X1 M35i

This is the only pairing the X1 range offers, and the honest split is not power against equipment. Both models carry the same standard technology, the same safety suite and the same cabin. What $9,200 changes is the hardware between the road and the driver: an M-tuned version of the engine worth 71 horsepower, Adaptive M Suspension in place of the passive setup, M Sport brakes, and a 19-inch wheel on a 20-millimetre wider tire. Torque is identical, so around town the two feel closer than the spec sheet reads. Above 4,000 rpm and through a sequence of corners they do not.

The M35i also gives up 1.6 inches of front headroom to its sport seats and adds 40 pounds. Neither matters much unless you are tall, in which case sit in both before you decide.

The 2027 BMW X1 Value Verdict and Step-Up Guide

The volume model is the X1 xDrive28i, and it is the one on our lot in depth. It carries the full Curved Display, the standard safety suite and standard all-wheel drive at the entry price of the X range. The step above it is a genuine second product rather than a longer options list.

StepPrice differenceWhat it addsWho it is for

Price difference is arithmetic on BMW's two starting MSRPs. Both figures exclude destination and handling, taxes, title and registration.

Which 2027 BMW X1 Trim Is Right for You?

If you commute Interstate 80 five days a week

The X1 xDrive28i. Identical torque to the M35i, a taller sidewall that rides better over broken pavement, and every piece of cabin technology the range offers. See X1 inventory.

If the drive is the reason you are buying

The X1 M35i, for the Adaptive M Suspension before the horsepower. Add the M Sport seats if you drive the valley two-lanes regularly.

If you want the assistance systems more than the performance

The X1 xDrive28i with the Driving Assistance Professional package. Those systems work identically on both models, and on the xDrive28i the money goes into the equipment you use every morning.

If you are tall

Sit in both. The xDrive28i has 42.1 inches of front headroom against the M35i's 40.5, and the M Sport seat is the difference.

If wet pavement is the deciding factor

Either one. xDrive all-wheel drive and Hill Descent Control are standard equipment on both models, not an option to price.

Shop 2027 BMW X1 Trims at BMW of Napa Valley

We keep the X1 xDrive28i in stock in depth and can place a factory order for either model when the exact specification you want is not on the lot. The store is at 2399 Auto Mall Pkwy in Fairfield, off Interstate 80, which puts it in easy reach of Napa, Vacaville, Vallejo, Suisun City and American Canyon. A county that runs from damp mornings off Suisun Marsh to dry inland afternoons in the same day asks a lot of a chassis, and both X1 models arrive ready for it.

2027 BMW X1 Trim FAQs

How many trims does the 2027 BMW X1 have?

Two: the BMW X1 xDrive28i at $43,200 MSRP and the BMW X1 M35i at $52,400 MSRP. Both exclude the $1,350 destination and handling charge.

What is the price difference between the X1 xDrive28i and the X1 M35i?

$9,200 on starting MSRP. That buys 71 horsepower, a second off 0-60 mph, Adaptive M Suspension, M Sport brakes and exhaust, and a 19-inch wheel on a wider tire.

Do both BMW X1 models have all-wheel drive?

Yes. xDrive all-wheel drive is standard on the X1 xDrive28i and the X1 M35i, and no 2027 X1 is offered in front-wheel or rear-wheel drive.

Is the M35i stronger low down as well as at the top?

Both models make 295 lb-ft, so the difference between them is horsepower, 241 against 312, and the chassis hardware underneath.

Is the BMW Curved Display standard on the base X1?

Yes. The 10.25-inch instrument cluster and 10.7-inch control display come on both models, running BMW iDrive with Operating System 9. It is not an option on either one.

Which X1 has bigger wheels?

The M35i, on 19 x 8-inch alloys with 245/45 tires against the xDrive28i's 18 x 7.5-inch wheels on 225/55. A 20-inch M Y-Spoke Bicolor 872M wheel is available on the M35i.

Does choosing the M35i cost me any boot space?

No. Both models carry 25.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats on the same five-seat cabin with the same 40/20/40 split. The cargo and interior page covers what that holds.

Can I order an X1 rather than buy from stock?

Yes. We place factory orders for both models. Ordering makes most sense on the M35i, where the M Compound brakes, the 20-inch wheel and the M Sport seats are the options worth specifying yourself.
