2027 BMW X1 Technology and Safety in Northern California

The Curved Display and iDrive 9 are standard on both models. What is standard, what is available, and what each system does.

The 2027 BMW X1 puts the same cabin technology in both models, which is the scope fact buyers most often get wrong about the entry point of a luxury range. The BMW Curved Display is standard equipment on the X1 xDrive28i, not an upgrade: a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch control display behind one continuous piece of curved glass, running BMW iDrive on Operating System 9 with QuickSelect. Navigation, wireless charging and the five-system standard safety suite come with the car at either price.

We sell both models at BMW of Napa Valley, and the headline technology arrives standard rather than as an option to price. Pricing lives on the trims page.

Quick Answer

  • BMW Curved Display is standard on both models: 10.25-inch cluster plus 10.7-inch control display.
  • BMW iDrive with Operating System 9 and QuickSelect, with voice, touch and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.
  • Five standard driver-assistance systems, including Active Blind Spot Detection and Lane Keeping Assistant.
  • Driving Assistant Professional is available and works in stop-and-go traffic, braking to a stop and resuming.
  • Navigation, wireless charging and LED headlights with High Beam Assist are standard on both.

2027 BMW X1 Infotainment and Connectivity

One screen assembly, standard on both models. The BMW Curved Display merges a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch central control display behind a single sheet of glass that curves toward the driver, so the instruments and the map sit in one plane rather than two.

It runs BMW iDrive on Operating System 9 with QuickSelect, which puts the functions you use most on the first layer rather than inside a menu tree. Input is by touch, by the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, or by voice. Navigation is standard. The centre console carries a wireless charging tray as standard equipment, and the M35i gets M-specific instrument graphics on the same display.

Driving Assistant Professional in Stop-and-Go Traffic

Driving Assistant Professional is the X1's flagship assistance package and it is available rather than standard, on both models. It holds lane position and following distance together, which is what makes it useful in the kind of traffic that never fully clears: if the queue stops, the car brakes to a complete stop, and when the queue moves it resumes on its own without the driver re-arming it.

Two things to be clear about on scope. The package is optional equipment on both the xDrive28i and the M35i, so a car on the lot may or may not have it. And it is a driver-assistance system: it supports the driver rather than replacing them, and the driver stays responsible for the car. Parking Assistant Plus is a separate available package, adding cameras that build a 3D view of the car's surroundings on the control display so you can see the space before you commit to it.

Standard Driver Assistance Features

Five systems come on every 2027 BMW X1, at either price, with no package to add.

SystemWhat it does
Active Blind Spot DetectionWatches the lanes either side and warns before a lane change into occupied space.
Lane Keeping AssistantReads lane markings and acts when the car drifts out of its lane.
Forward Collision MitigationDetects an impending front impact and intervenes to reduce it.
Speed Limit AssistReads posted limits and brings them into the driver's view.
Active Park Distance Control with Side ProtectionMonitors close obstacles when parking, including alongside the car.
BMW High Beam AssistShields oncoming drivers automatically, so the high beams stay on longer.
Back-up cameraStandard on both models, alongside stability control and Hill Descent Control.

Available Driver Assistance and Packages

Three further systems are available on both models, grouped into the Driving Assistance packages rather than sold individually.

  • Distance Control with Steering Assistant. Holds a set gap to the car ahead and supports the steering while it does.
  • Traffic Jam Assistant. The system built for the queue rather than the open road.
  • Lane Change Assistant. Supports the manoeuvre once the car has confirmed the lane is clear.

Parking Assistant Plus and its 3D surround view are separate. On the M35i, the M steering wheel with paddle shifters and a boost function is standard, and M-specific displays come with it.

Which 2027 BMW X1 Has the Technology You Want?

  • You want the full screen and the modern cabin at the entry price. The X1 xDrive28i already has it. The Curved Display, iDrive 9, navigation and wireless charging are standard, so nothing needs adding. See X1 inventory.
  • Your commute is stop-and-go. Add Driving Assistance Professional to either model. It is the system that earns its money in a queue rather than on an open highway.
  • You park in tight spaces. Parking Assistant Plus, for the 3D surround view. Active Park Distance Control with Side Protection is already standard underneath it.
  • You want the M cabin. The X1 M35i, for the M steering wheel, the M-specific displays and proximity-sensing keyless entry, which the xDrive28i does not offer.

BMW iDrive with Operating System 9 and QuickSelect, operated by touch, voice or the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

What does Driving Assistant Professional do in traffic?

Does the BMW X1 have wireless charging?

Yes. The wireless charging tray in the centre console is standard on both models.

Can I add adaptive cruise control to the X1?

Yes. Distance Control with Steering Assistant is available on both models, grouped into the Driving Assistance packages alongside Traffic Jam Assistant and Lane Change Assistant.
