BMW sells the 2027 X1 in two forms and both of them drive all four wheels. The X1 xDrive28i starts at $43,200 MSRP with 241 horsepower and reaches 60 mph in 6.2 seconds; the X1 M35i starts at $52,400 MSRP with 312 horsepower and does it in 5.2. Between them sits a 177.2-inch compact luxury SUV with 25.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats, a 40/20/40 split bench, and the BMW Curved Display standard on both.

That combination does a specific job for drivers around Fairfield. The car that has to sit in the Interstate 80 crawl on a Tuesday morning is the same one heading up Highway 29 or the Silverado Trail on a Saturday, and the X1 is the smallest BMW SUV that handles both without asking you to give up the boot. The xDrive28i is the one most buyers want and it arrives fully equipped; the M35i is for the driver who wants the quicker car and the firmer chassis underneath it. Both drive all four wheels as standard.

Key Numbers

  • Engines: 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four, 241 hp and 295 lb-ft; 2.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo four, 312 hp and 295 lb-ft.
  • Starting MSRP: $43,200 for the X1 xDrive28i and $52,400 for the X1 M35i, both before a $1,350 destination and handling charge.
  • 0-60 mph: 6.2 seconds in the xDrive28i, 5.2 seconds in the M35i.
  • Cargo: 25.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats, up to 57.2 cubic feet with them folded, with a power liftgate and roof rails standard.
  • Drive: xDrive all-wheel drive is standard on both, with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission.
  • Included maintenance: BMW Ultimate Care covers scheduled maintenance for 3 years or 36,000 miles, on a 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty.

2027 BMW X1 Engines and Powertrain Options

Two versions of the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder cover the whole range, and both send power through a 7-speed dual clutch transmission to BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive. Neither model is offered in front-wheel or rear-wheel drive, and there is no plug-in hybrid X1.

2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder, the X1 xDrive28i

BMW rates the xDrive28i at 241 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, for a BMW-estimated 6.2 seconds to 60 mph. The torque figure is the one that matters on a commute, and it is the same 295 lb-ft the M35i makes. That is why the car feels unhurried pulling out of Auto Mall Parkway onto a busy Interstate 80 and why it rarely needs to downshift on the climb out of the valley. It runs on premium gasoline, rides on 18-inch V-Spoke Bicolor wheels with all-season tires and is limited to 130 mph.

2.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder, the X1 M35i

The M35i takes the same displacement to 312 horsepower, reaching 60 mph in a BMW-estimated 5.2 seconds. Torque stays at 295 lb-ft, so what the extra $9,200 buys is the top of the rev range and the chassis underneath it rather than more pull at low speed. It adds Adaptive M Suspension, M Sport brakes, an M Sport exhaust with quad tips and a 19-inch wheel on a wider 245/45 tire. Performance Control is standard on both models, braking the inside wheels through a corner and sending more power to the outside ones.

2027 BMW X1 Trim Lineup and Pricing

There are two models, not a ladder of five, which makes this one of the simpler BMW price lists to read. Figures below are BMW's starting MSRPs and exclude the $1,350 destination and handling charge, taxes, title and registration. Confirm current pricing with the dealership before you order.

BMW X1 xDrive28i

The volume model, and the one on the lot. Standard equipment covers the whole BMW Curved Display setup, the wireless charging tray, soft-touch Veganza upholstery and the full standard safety suite, on 18-inch V-Spoke Bicolor wheels with all-season tires. Optional packages group the rest, and the Driving Assistance packages are the ones worth understanding in this market.

BMW X1 M35i

The performance model, built by BMW M rather than optioned up from the xDrive28i. Beyond the engine it brings Adaptive M Suspension, the M steering wheel with paddle shifters, M-specific instrument graphics on the Curved Display, black mirror caps and M alloy wheels as standard. Available on it alone: 19-inch M Compound brakes with grey calipers, 20-inch M Y-Spoke Bicolor 872M wheels, and M Sport seats with illuminated M logos.

Technology and Connectivity

Both models get the BMW Curved Display as standard: a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch control display sitting behind one continuous piece of curved glass angled toward the driver. It runs BMW iDrive on Operating System 9 with QuickSelect, and it takes voice, touch or the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Navigation and the wireless charging tray in the centre console are standard too. On the M35i the same screen carries M-specific readouts.

Interior and Comfort

The cabin is built around a minimalist dash with an upholstered face, contrast stitching and metallic accents that run into the doors. Soft-touch Veganza upholstery is standard, in a range of colors, over a five-seat cabin. Space is good for the footprint: 42.1 inches of headroom and 40.4 inches of legroom up front, 39.3 and 37.0 inches in the second row, on a 106.0-inch wheelbase.

Cargo and Passenger Space

The X1 carries 25.7 cubic feet behind the second row and up to 57.2 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, on a five-seat cabin. The seatback splits 40/20/40, so the centre section drops for long items while two passengers keep the outboard seats and their belts, and a power liftgate and roof rails are standard. Standard payload capacity is 994 pounds, which is five adults and their weekend bags with room to spare. For a weekend up the valley the number that counts is the 25.7 figure with everyone aboard, and that is enough for two large cases plus soft bags.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Five driver-assistance systems are standard on the 2027 X1: Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane Keeping Assistant, Forward Collision Mitigation, Speed Limit Assist and Active Park Distance Control with Side Protection. LED headlights with BMW High Beam Assist and a back-up camera are standard as well.

Available on top of that: Distance Control with Steering Assistant, Traffic Jam Assistant and Lane Change Assistant, grouped into the Driving Assistance packages. Driving Assistant Professional is the one worth understanding for this market, because it holds lane position and following distance in stop-and-go traffic, brakes to a complete stop and then resumes on its own. Parking Assistant Plus adds cameras that build a 3D view of the car's surroundings on the control display.

Which 2027 BMW X1 Is Right for You?

Two models, and the split is cleaner than the price gap suggests.

  • You commute Interstate 80 most weekdays. The X1 xDrive28i. It makes the same 295 lb-ft as the M35i, and its 18-inch wheel on a taller sidewall rides better over broken pavement. See X1 inventory.
  • The drive itself is the point. The X1 M35i, for the Adaptive M Suspension and the second it takes out of 0-60 rather than for the badge. Add the M Sport seats if you drive the valley roads regularly.
  • You want the technology without the performance premium. The X1 xDrive28i with Driving Assistance Professional. The Curved Display, iDrive 9 and the standard safety suite are identical across both models, so the assistance package buys more of what you use daily than the engine does.
  • Winter mornings and wet pavement worry you. Either. xDrive all-wheel drive is standard equipment on the 2027 X1, not an option to price.
  • You need one car to do everything. The X1 xDrive28i with the Convenience package is the well-equipped pick most buyers here land on, and it is the configuration we stock most deeply.
